How long have you been with Hi-Lo?
In my role as Finance Director, I have had the privilege of working together with Hi-Lo family for the past 4 years.

Give us a brief outline of your academic background
I am an Accountant by profession, having successfully completed my professional accountancy examinations with The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in 1999. Because I worked and studied at the same time, I was able to gain the necessary relevant working experience by 2003 to become a Fellow of the Association (FCCA).

What is your role as Finance director of Hi-Lo Food Stores?
I see my role as Finance Director split into two distinct functions. The first function is that of the Custodian, where I have to ensure that the Company’s assets are secure, that the books are being kept in good order and that internal controls are in place and are being adhered to. The second function is that of the Strategist, where I provide ideas, insight, advice and support for growth initiatives, while at the same time being ever mindful of potential dangers that the Company may have to be steered around as a result of pursuing these initiatives.

Within the context of the working environment, what is your personal credo?
Try not to communicate negativity or to teach fears to anyone. Instead, show them the positives; introduce them to what is possible!

What is your favourite movie?
Because I love movies, I am going to give you two: “The Shawshank Redemption” (my all time favourite!) and “Invictus” (great leadership lessons in this one). Both movies star one of my favourite actors, Morgan Freeman.
