Plastikeep

Recycling Support In May 2010, the Government of Trinidad and Tobago launched the Plastikeep Recovery Programme, with the aim of generating public participation in recycling. In September 2016, the existence of this Programme was injected with new life thanks to financial support from Massy. The Programme, created “to address Trinidad’s mounting problem of plastic waste as well as the lack of consciousness in the general population around proper plastic disposal,” allows the general public to dispose of its plastic waste in a manner that protects and conserves the environment. It also provides the opportunity to convert that would-be waste into a useful resource. With a number of Massy Stores’ branches nationwide having already been Plastikeep collection centres, Massy’s contribution allowed collection bins to be returned to all of the sites across the country so that recyclable waste could be collected regularly. When Plastikeep closed its operations due to the discontinuation of government funding, Massy continued to this day to fund the collection of plastics from the bins at select locations.

Nourish TT

Nourish is an organization that seeks to alleviate hunger in Trinidad and Tobago by reducing food wastage.

Their vision of “A more mindful, socially and environmentally responsible society” is something that resonated with Massy stores. It is for this reason that Massy stores has been an avid supporter of the Nourish Program over the past 3 years (Since 2014)
Nourish uses web and mobile technology to connect food companies that have surplus food to charities in the community that use that food to feed people in need.

Dented grocery items or Grocery items with damaged packaging (still fit for consumption but not ideal for resale) are donated to Nourish on a weekly basis. The stores that currently donate include Maraval, Trincity and Glencoe.

With these donated items, various charities have the opportunity to source ingredients to make meals for those most in need.

An estimated 100,000 people or 7.4% of our population are afflicted with hunger. Massy stores intends to continue its efforts with Nourish as we collaboratively try to alleviate hunger in Trinidad and Tobago.

United Way Day of Caring

In 2018 Massy Stores focused on assisting both the young (Teenage boys) at Rainbow Rescue and the young at heart J (Elderly) at the St Clare’s Hospice.

The goal at Rainbow Rescue was to personally touch the hearts of the young men by sowing into their lives. We were able to purchase slippers for each of the boys, toothpaste, deodorant, razors, mouth wash and we were also able to purchase small tokens for the two women responsible for the care of the boys.

At the St Clare’s Home (Corner of Oxford and Pembroke Street, POS the goal was to improve the standard of living for the inhabitance.
We sought to acquire funds and use it to purchase materials needed to tile TV room / Sitting area, replace all bad/poor lighting fixtures, including two emergency lights, to power wash the yard and mend cracks in the foundation, to fix cupboard doors and drawers in the kitchen, to install cupboards to help organize storage and to paint the sitting area, kitchen, dining area and outer walls.

Rainbow Rescue
Rainbow Rescue is a charitable organization, which was formed out of a deep concern for the increasing number of children who are being forced to live on the streets of our cities, due to poverty, a breakdown in family life and/or social services or abuse. Our focus is male children who, if left alone are likely to develop negative lifestyles.

Our objectives are to rehabilitate and educate at primary, secondary and vocational levels. This would prepare them for gainful employment and take their rightful place in society as productive, law abiding citizens. At present we are supporting fourteen boys ages ten to eighteen.

We are a body which depends largely upon the kindness of private citizens, companies, and our own resourcefulness in order to continue our work.

Rainbow Rescue was incorporated on November 16th, 1999 under the companies Act, 1995 of Trinidad and Tobago, chartered by and under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Social Development. We are also registered as a charitable body with the Ministry of Finance and licensed with the Children’s Authority of Trinidad and Tobago.
